Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS)

Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) is one of the largest public medical universities in Iran, founded in 1974 in Tehran, located near Milad Tower, which is the sixth-tallest tower in the World. As of 1986, the University conducts all academic activities under the administrative authority of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

It is among the most well-known academic health centers both nationally and regionally. Its students rank among the top 1% of Iran’s students in the national ranking entrance exams for universities.

The University operates ten schools (Medicine, Nursing & Midwifery, Public Health, Health Management and Information Sciences, Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences, Advanced technologies in Medicine, Allied Medical Sciences and Medicine and Pharmacy in its International Campus), two centers, two institutes, twenty-nine research centers, seventeen teaching and fifteen non-teaching hospitals in Tehran.

IUMS admits international applicants to almost all degree programs, including health care professional programs such as medicine, pharmacy, and nursing. It is accredited with premier status by the Accreditation Service for International Colleges (ASIC), which is recognized by the United Kingdom Department for Education and Skills (DfES), and the UK Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted).

Today, Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) is a pioneer in providing academic and health care services to approximately 5.2% of the country’s population, including professors, researchers, students, staff and the general public. The university aims to promote health care – related goals nationally and internationally, including educational policies and programs, and provide quality service to its community and beyond.

Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS), offer both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

An undergraduate applicant is a student working toward a Bachelor (B.Sc.) degree. We consider you an undergraduate applicant if you have graduated from high school and are applying to our University.

A postgraduate applicant is a student who has already completed and obtained the first-level university study and wishes to pursue his or her education beyond the first-level university study.
Postgraduate applicants should have a University degree in a field related to the desired field of study.

Applicants must submit their final transcript, which includes your final semester’s marks and evidence that you have completed your degree. If you have completed studies from a number of post-secondary institutions, you will need to submit a final transcript from each institution at which you studied.

Application  period

At IUMS students’ intake is on September and January. You can submit your application at any time and it will be considered for the next available start date. We recommend you to apply as early as possible, because the visa application process can delay University enrollment.

Undergraduate Programs

An undergraduate or a first-level university student is a student working toward an Associate, B.Sc., M.D., D.D.S., or Pharm.D. degree. We consider you an undergraduate applicant if you have graduated from high school and are applying to one of the above-mentioned degrees.

Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) and Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) and Doctor of Dentistry (D.D.S.) applicants should note that the language of instruction is English and patient interaction will be Persian/Farsi, although IUMS professors speak English, power points and books are in English, and exams might be given in English. If you do not have knowledge of Persian/Farsi and you are an M.D., or Pharm.D. or D.D.S. applicant, Please make arrangements to come at least one semester before the start of your sessions to begin your Persian/Farsi language classes.
